The challenge
Borealis Wind Partners evaluated candidate sites one at a time, with consultants assembling wind, terrain, land ownership, transmission, and environmental constraints from scratch for each study. Screening a single county took months, and two late-stage sites had already been abandoned over constraints that should have surfaced on day one.
The approach
GeoGarmeux consultants assembled the constraint layers once — wind resource, slope, parcel ownership, transmission proximity, protected areas, and setback rules — into a weighted multi-criteria model in GeoGarmeux Atlas. The development team now adjusts weights and watches the ranked site map update live, and every screened parcel carries its full constraint history.
The results
- 2,400 square miles screened in 6 weeks across three states
- 14 constraint layers combined in one repeatable siting model
- 2 lease negotiations opened on sites the old process had never flagged
“We compressed a year of desktop studies into a model we can re-run over lunch. The map does the arguing for us.”
